This past week I visited Santa Maria, California in partnership with Allison Brandum and the San Luis Obispo Health Agency to visit a unique site where people are experiencing homelessness in Santa Maria. As pictured above, a significant portion of the homeless community in this area are displaced farmers, who are now growing crops, such as corn, in this open field where they reside. Interesting cases of homelessness like these are important to understand as we look at it from a statewide challenge.
Additionally, we provided 10 Makeshift Travelers to Allison Brandum and the SLO Health Agency to distribute to their clients thanks to a community grant from Board of Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg in San Luis Obispo.
