Partnering with Nevada County & Ami Housing in Truckee

We are thrilled to share a meaningful chapter of our journey in Northern California. Thanks to the continued support of the Martis Camp Realty Foundation, The HomeMore Project partnered with Nevada County and AMI Housing to deliver 25 Makeshift Traveler backpacks to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in the Truckee area.

This collaboration represents the power of sustained partnership. In 2024, the Martis Camp Realty Foundation awarded us a $2,500 grant, which allowed us to begin serving the Truckee community through AMI Housing’s trusted outreach. This year, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment with an additional $3,500 grant, making it possible for us to return and support another group of residents in need.

The Truckee region, known for its beauty and harsh alpine winters, presents unique challenges for people living outdoors, from cold nights to social isolation. During this outreach, the need for durable, weather-resistant storage and portable survival tools was more than evident.

The AMI Housing outreach staff assisted in identifying individuals most in need and facilitating personal, respectful, human-to-human interactions. We repeatedly heard how the backpack would allow recipients to keep belongings secure, access services reliably, and maintain communication with family, case managers, and healthcare providers.

We are grateful for the longstanding trust and generosity of the Martis Camp Realty Foundation, and we are excited to share that with their continued backing, we plan to return in early 2026 to deliver an additional 25 Makeshift Travelers in Truckee.
