The HomeMore Project is excited to announce four new grant awards that will significantly expand the reach of the Makeshift Traveler backpack program across multiple communities in California. These investments will directly support individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness and allow us to respond to community needs with greater scale and impact.
- ACF Helping Hands – Anaheim
This grant will allow us to deliver 10 Makeshift Traveler backpacks to individuals experiencing homelessness in Anaheim, strengthening emergency support locally. - Martis Camp Realty Community Foundation – Tahoe Truckee Region
Through this partnership, we will distribute 35 backpacks throughout the Tahoe Truckee area, helping unsheltered residents navigate harsh winter conditions, long distances, and transportation challenges in a rural environment. - Walmart – Ukiah & Chico
Walmart’s support will fund 10 backpacks for Ukiah and 10 backpacks for Chico, providing relief to two communities where access to services is often spread out and limited. - Los Angeles Women’s Giving Circle (LAWGC)
This impactful grant will support 75 Makeshift Traveler backpacks specifically for unhoused women in Los Angeles, addressing a critical population that faces unique risks related to safety, personal security, and vulnerability in urban environments.
These four new grant awards represent not only increased distribution, but a broader network of community partnerships — each grounded in local knowledge and regional need. With gratitude to each of these funders, we remain committed to scaling practical, dignity-centered solutions statewide and ensuring that people experiencing homelessness are supported with tools that improve daily stability, safety, and connection.
