Makeshift Traveler Distribution in Yreka, California

This month, The HomeMore Project partnered with Six Stones and NVCSS (Northern Valley Catholic Social Services) to distribute 20 Makeshift Traveler backpacks to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Yreka, California.

This region continues to be one of the most overlooked and underserved rural communities in the state, yet the need for weatherproof gear, storage, and reliable access to power remains incredibly high. With winter approaching and limited shelter beds available, having a safe place to store belongings, a warm sleeping bag, dry protection from the rain, and the ability to charge a phone is incredibly important.

Six Stones and NVCSS have long-standing trust with the individuals they serve in Yreka. Through their direct outreach efforts, we were able to reach those most disconnected from formal systems and provide backpacks on-site, in the places where people live. This collaborative distribution reinforces what makes rural partnerships so effective: local knowledge, community trust, and immediate access to the people who need support most.
