Last night, I had the honor of attending a special dinner hosted by the Los Angeles Women’s Giving Club (LAWGC), and I’m thrilled to share that The HomeMore Project was awarded a $7,500 grant to provide 75 Makeshift Traveler backpacks to women experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Los Angeles.
This partnership began months ago, when I first presented to LAWGC back in May. I spoke about women sleeping in their cars for safety, mothers working toward shelter placement, and the countless unhoused women who face vulnerability and danger every day. I described what it means to carry everything you own on your back, and what it means to be given something designed with dignity and protection in mind.
Their response included thoughtful questions, engaged deeply, and cared about solutions rooted in compassion and practicality. This grant means that 75 women will receive a Makeshift Traveler that includes the essentials they need, from a sleeping bag to hygiene kits to a solar-powered phone charger, all within a weatherproof, secure, dignity-centered backpack designed for survival and mobility.
We are incredibly grateful to LAWGC; not just for their funding, but for their trust, heart, and belief in our mission. This grant represents partnership in action of women lifting up other women! Thank you.
