Visiting San Diego- Delivering Packs to Rene from the Neighborhood Healthcare El Cajon and Connecting with Carol from the San Marcos Community Foundation

This past week, we had the opportunity to visit San Diego County for two meaningful moments that reflect the strength of our local partnerships. In El Cajon, we delivered 20 Makeshift Traveler backpacks to my good friend Rene from Neighborhood Healthcare. These packs included essential supplies such as sleeping bags, socks, and hand sanitizer generously donated by Nonaste. Rene continues to be a trusted and compassionate partner, ensuring these resources get into the hands of those who need them most.

Earlier that morning, I met with Carol from the San Marcos Community Foundation to discuss the ongoing impact of the Makeshift Traveler program in San Marcos. Over the past few years, the Foundation has supported our efforts with two $500 grants, funding a total of 10 Makeshift Travelers for the community. Our conversation focused on expanding the program and deepening our shared commitment to addressing unsheltered homelessness in the region.

We’re grateful for both Rene and Carol’s leadership and for the opportunity to collaborate with organizations that share our mission to deliver dignity, safety, and practical support to unhoused individuals across San Diego County.
