The last takeaway I will highlight on this blog is my unlimited optimism for helping those experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. There is so much negativity and conflict with how this community is viewed. Many narratives get placed on the unhoused community, which makes this particularly upsetting because the unhoused community rarely gets an opportunity to share their thoughts to defy this narrative.
Throughout 2022, I have met many wonderful, inspiring people who happen to be experiencing homelessness. I believe that homelessness will be addressed with the right services, programs, and balance between effectiveness and love. It may not be today, tomorrow, or this decade. Still, when resources and personnel are allocated correctly, it will only be a matter of time before housing is not a luxury but a fundamental part of society. As I have said many times before, I recognize that the Makeshift Traveler is not the solution, but it is a part of ours, and I am excited to see what 2023 has in store for us.
