This evening I met Jess and her husband Bob from Alabama. Jess and Bob have been in San Francisco for only six weeks, as they look for resources and work in the city.
Jess reached out, mentioning that she has a job interview with a hotel. In addition to her Makeshift Traveler, we provided her with two leftover $10 Target gift cards from Thanksgiving so she could buy new clothing for her interview. We look forward to hearing how her interview went!
As her husband Bob stood by the freeway with a cardboard sign looking for donations, Jess and I chatted about the hardships of experiencing homelessness. After a few minutes, I could tell that Jess did not feel as if she belonged out there. Jess was so sweet and honest about the unfortunate things that she has had to experience and witness by being on the streets. She noted that her and Bob are going to give it until the end of the year to find a new job and if unable to, they plan to return home to Alabama.
We are still in contact with Jess and Bob. If you would like to assist in their transition into new jobs with a form of permanent housing, please click the button below, and write a comment, “Jess and Bob”.
