This evening I met Lil’ Ricky in the Nob Hill area close to Vanness Street. Ricky and I chatted about his time experiencing homelessness which has been rather extensive. Ricky has been experiencing homelessness on and off for the past 25 years since he was 17. He mentioned that his parents were and still may be experiencing homelessness today. All of which made it challenging to alleviate those challenges that were so familiar to him.
Nonetheless, Ricky still managed to attend high school, playing football for Cathedral High School in San Francisco. Ricky mentioned that he worked many office jobs, including being an insurance broker for Allstate Insurance. As job insecurity persisted when he was younger and challenges within his family continued to arise, Ricky transitioned to being unhoused entirely.
Ricky did not have a cell phone, as it got stolen last week, but he did provide us with an email that he has infrequent access to when he visits General Assistance close to the Civic Center.
