California in Midst of Raising Taxes for the Unhoused

By Rachel Lampert

Some residents in the state of California feel concerned about election results being called earlier than expected. This then causes ideas of where some individuals stand. Raising Los Angeles County’s sales tax to provide support for efforts toward those who are unhoused is at a standstill. Ballot resource webpage – Ballotpeida says. “A “yes” vote supported repealing the Measure H tax and replacing it with a sales tax of 0.5% with revenue going to affordable housing, mental health and addiction treatment, and services to children, families, veterans, domestic violence survivors, seniors, and disabled people experiencing homelessness.”

Meanwhile, someone who votes “no” would vote for the opposite. “…opposed repealing the Measure H tax and replacing it with a sales tax of 0.5% with revenue going to affordable housing, mental health and addiction treatment, and services to children, families, veterans, domestic violence survivors, seniors, and disabled people experiencing homelessness.” The percentages calculated from Ballotpedia are 1,328,876 (55.74%) people who agree and 1,054,996 (44.26%) who disagree. Scott Mann –speaker for the Yes on Measure A project says regarding votes on the measure. “…brings us one step closer to being able to bring bold new solutions to tackling homelessness and improving the lives of all who call Los Angeles County home” This measure would also provide programs such as additional low-income housing and rent-relief programs for those in need.
